Students should check with the relevant office at their home universities to find out how courses at The Beijing Center will count toward their overall degree requirements and appear on their home university transcripts. The Beijing Center reminds students that it is their responsibility to provide material to their department or university to assist officials there in determining the fit in an individual's curriculum plan. This material is available at the TBC website. |

Loyola University Chicago grants credit for undergraduates who complete Beijing Center courses. Loyola is accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. Generally, courses offered by The Beijing Center are worth three Loyola semester credit hours. Each three-credit course meets for roughly 2.5 hours per week except for Chinese language courses. Regular Chinese language courses meet for approximately five hours per week. Intensive Chinese language courses meet for approximately ten hours per week. Students taking Intensive Chinese courses, whether at the Elementary, Intermediate, or Advanced level, enroll in two separate courses during the semester. Each part of the Intensive Chinese course is worth three credit hours and students receive two grades, with each grade reflecting the performance for that particular segment. Students will wish to clarify how grades in these 6 credit courses are seen and counted at their schools. How universities and departments in which the student is enrolled treat the grades given to students is for them to determine. Students should also check with their home universities to learn how the Loyola University Chicago credits they receive at The Beijing Center will transfer. |

The letter grades A, A-, B+, B, B-, C+, C, C-, D+, D, F, WF are assigned the following credit points for purposes of grade point average (GPA) calculations: A = 4.0; A- = 3.67; B+ = 3.33; B = 3.00; B- = 2.67; C+ = 2.33; C = 2.00; C- = 1.67; D+ = 1.33; D = 1.00; F = 0; WF = 0. A grade of "W" indicates official withdrawal from a course with permission from the Dean at The Beijing Center after the allowed withdrawal period (see academic calendar for dates). The grade "W" is not counted in computation of academic standing as either attempted or earned credit hours, nor calculated in the grade point average. A grade of "WF" indicates withdrawal from a class without proper authorization at any time and is also assigned for withdrawal after the approval deadline (see academic calendar for dates). A course with "WF" is counted as attempted credit hours in the computation of academic standing and is calculated as "F" (0 credit points) in the grade point average. Students should be aware that they are not allowed to withdraw from Chinese language classes under any but the most exceptional circumstances (and only then after consultation with and agreement by the Dean). Students should check with their home universities to find out whether and how their Beijing Center grades will count towards their cumulative GPAs. |
