Academic Excursions
Week 3
Taiyuan (2 days): Visit China Coal Museum and a simulated underground coal mine; home-stay at a village on the Loess Plateau experimenting in water-conservation and reforestation efforts.
Wudang Mountain (3 days): Visit the sacred Taoist mountain, experience the traditional Chinese philosophy of harmony between humans and nature; stay at a Taichi academy and learn from a master and his students.
Week 4
Chengdu (2 days): Local experts lead guided visits to a Giant Panda Breeding Center and a Living Water Park, two of China’s top public environmental education examples.
Daping Village (3 days): Wrecked by the 2008 earthquake, this hilltop village has been rebuilt with the help of China’s leading environmental education NGO, Global Village Beijing, and turned into a learning base for sustainable rural development.
