Eligibility Requirements

The Beijing Center’s view is that the opportunity to study abroad is a privilege earned by students as demonstrated by a solid academic record and appropriate conduct.

Applicants should:

  • Be current degree-seeking undergraduate students at an accredited university with a minimum of second semester sophomore standing at the beginning our program and will have at least one semester left of university study upon their return from our program.  Students that do not fit in these criteria but who wish to attend TBC should contact our Chicago Office for additional information.
  • Be non-Chinese citizens, unless they also have Permanent Resident status or citizenship status in at least one country other than China
  • Be in solid disciplinary standing at their home schools
  • Be in good academic standing and have a minimum cumulative GPA of at least 2.8 on a 4.0 scale for all college-level work
  • Obtain a positive recommendation from a professor
  • Demonstrate solid motivation for wanting to participate in the program as expressed through a personal statement

Deadlines

TBC admits students on a rolling basis, so students are encouraged to apply in advance of the deadline in order to secure a space in the program. The earliest applications can be received is one semester beforehand.

Completed applications should be received by the following dates:

Fall 2014: April 16th

Spring 2015: November 3rd

Applicants should check with their home university study abroad offices, as they may have earlier deadlines than ours.
