The Beijing Center

The Beijing Center’s view is that the opportunity to study abroad is a privilege earned by students as demonstrated by a solid academic record and appropriate conduct. Students must generally be in good health while participating in a TBC program. Students with certain physical disabilities may not be able to be accommodated on this program. Students will be housed in a six-floor facility that does not have an elevator. If there is any question about whether a student might be accommodated, please contact The Beijing Center’s Chicago Office and we would be glad to discuss the situation. Special assistance may be available for students with learning disabilities. Students with such needs should inform The Beijing Center’s Chicago Office immediately of any such issues so that we may determine what assistance, if any, we might provide.

Applicants Should:
  • Be current degree-seeking undergraduate students at an accredited university with junior standing at the beginning our program and will have at least one semester left of university study upon their return from our program. (Graduating seniors who wish to do their final semester at The Beijing Center may be considered for admission but should first consult their home institution and The Beijing Center admissions office before applying.) Sophomores with special circumstance may also be considered.
  • Be non-Chinese citizens, unless they also have Permanent Resident status or citizenship status in at least one country other than China
  • Be in solid disciplinary standing at their home schools
  • Be in good academic standing and have a minimum cumulative GPA of at least 2.8 on a 4.0 scale for all college-level work
  • Obtain a positive recommendation from a professor
  • Demonstrate solid motivation for wanting to participate in the program as expressed through a personal statement
  • Have their complete applications received by The Beijing Center’s Admissions Office by the application deadline.

*ChinaVoice and ChinaGreen Summer Programs - All of the eligibility criteria above except for the first point apply to these programs; sophomores, graduating seniors and TBC alums are allowed to participate in the program.

*Note: There will be a cap of 15 students (including year-long students) from any one school allowed to enroll and study at The Beijing Center each semester. The 15-student cap can be exceeded if all qualified applicants have been admitted and there is still room in the program.
