Dr. Sun was a professor, vice dean, and department chair at Northwest University in Xi'an. Later he came to Beijing as a professor and Chair of the Academic Committee, School of Foreign Languages at RUC. He is also a member of the Excellent Educational Resources Abroad and Quality Assurance System Advisory Board, Ministry of Education.

Professor Yang has been teaching literature at RUC since 1982 and has won the "Excellent Teacher" Award from the Beijing Municipal Government. He also teaches comparative literature emphasizing American and European literature and directs graduate candidates in that field. In the US, he has taught at Towson University and lectured at Dickinson College.
